This interview was fascinating, and a very interesting perspective in helping kids with severe Autism. I wonder how many other Titos are out there that have not been given the opportunity to maximize their potential to communicate? By the way, I am a school psychologist in North Carolina who has been listening to your podcasts the last month. I do assessments and consultations for kids with possible ASD. I have learned a lot about various perspectives and programs for autism from your podcasts. Keep up the good work!
It does make you question whether Tito’s abilities make him a one of a kind or not. I tend to believe that there are more people on the spectrum who are geniuses like him. I have come across people on the spectrum with amazing abilities that we simply stumbled across. I think it makes us also question how can someone be so profoundly affected with ASD and yet have such amazing gifts? Yet, all the amazing gifts in the world cannot replace the need for connections with others and replace close personal relationships. I feel that it must be difficult to go through life without these connections. I enjoy working on the social-emotional puzzle piece for people on the spectrum. I love to explore the person’s development and to help them build their feelings of attachment, mastery and self-awareness.
